Although Isaiah heard God’s voice in the temple saying, “Whom shall I send?,” he reached his own conclusion that it was right for him personally to respond. Paul’s dream of the man in Macedonia (described as a “vision” in most English translations) may have been a direct revelation from God; however, Paul never found a man in ministry in Macedonia once he ventured there, but a Jewish woman (Lydia) whom he converted, and who became pivotal to his ministry in that region. Given these circumstances, it’s likely Paul’s night-vision was a dream, and part of his normal gestalt process in deciding to travel to Macedonia.
